Organic citations
Citations without self-citations. When a query names a brand, Fond does not count a link to that brand's own site in the answer. It still counts every other source in the same answer.
Organic citations count sources as citations do, minus the links that the query asked for.
How Fond decides
Fond leaves a citation out only when the query named a brand and the cited site belongs to that brand. Everything else counts.
- "best wool sneakers" names no brand, so every citation in the answer is organic.
- "is Allbirds or Rothy's better" names two brands. Fond leaves out the links to the sites of those two brands. A running blog, a Reddit thread or a YouTube video in the same answer still counts.
Shared platforms such as youtube.com and instagram.com belong to no brand. So a citation to them is always organic, even from a brand's own channel.
Organic citations are a count, not a rate.
Unaccounted citations
Sometimes Fond cannot load, for a run, which sites belong to which brand or which brands each query named. Then the citations of that run show as unaccounted. They are in the total, but never in the organic view.
How it differs from organic visibility
Organic visibility drops a whole query for the brand that it names. Organic citations keep the query and drop only the named brand's own links.
