Average answer position
Where a brand first shows up in AI answers, averaged over its mentions. 1 is the top third of the answer, 2 is the middle and 3 is the bottom. Lower means that it comes up earlier.
Average answer position tracks how early in AI answers a brand comes up.
How Fond computes it
For each answer that mentions a brand, Fond records the third of the answer where the brand first appears. 1 is the top third, 2 is the middle and 3 is the bottom. Fond averages this over every answer that mentioned the brand. If Fond could not read the position of a mention, it counts as 3.
It is not a rank among brands. Two brands named in the same first paragraph both score 1.
How it differs from average search position
Average search position is where a page ranks in the Google results, from Search Console. For both figures, lower is better. But average answer position runs from 1 to 3, and a Google ranking has no upper limit.
