Glossary

The terms Fond uses in its analytics, each defined the way Fond computes it.

Each term below is explained the same way here and in the Fond app's tooltips.

  • AI visibility: The share of AI answers to your tracked queries that mention your brand. Fond pools the answers across every assistant and repeat. It leaves out the answers that failed.
  • Average answer position: Where a brand first shows up in AI answers, averaged over its mentions. 1 is the top third of the answer, 2 is the middle and 3 is the bottom. Lower means that it comes up earlier.
  • Average search position: Where your pages rank in the Google results, as Search Console reports it. Fond averages it over the range and weights it by impressions. 1 is the top result, so lower is better.
  • Citations: How many AI answers drew on a site as a source. A site counts once in an answer, however many of its pages the answer used. Your own site and the sites that a query named are included.
  • Organic citations: Citations without self-citations. When a query names a brand, Fond does not count a link to that brand's own site in the answer. It still counts every other source in the same answer.
  • Organic visibility: How often a brand comes up in AI answers to queries that did not name it. Branded and comparison queries cannot inflate it. n/a means there was nothing to measure, usually because every query named the brand.
  • Query: A question that Fond asks AI assistants for you, written the way a shopper asks it. Fond measures every visibility, share of voice and competitor figure over your queries.
  • Run: One pass over your queries. A run usually asks every query that is being asked, of every assistant that is on, as many times as your repetitions setting says. Pages show the latest run that finished with an answer.
  • Share of voice: How often AI answers mention your brand in each group of queries, by query tier or by your topic clusters. A query counts once if any answer to it mentioned you.
